Awards Season PR Strategy: How Publicists Run an FYC Campaign | Impact24 PR
Impact24 PR publicists break down their FYC campaign strategy for awards season: from Emmy nomination PR moves to cross-pollination and voter outreach
Nominations for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced on July 8th, kicking off one of the busiest stretches of the entertainment industry calendar. Grammy nominations, Guild awards, and the Oscars follow close behind, and for publicists, this window is when award season PR strategy moves from planning into execution.
We asked our team at Impact24 PR to break down what actually happens behind the scenes during a For Your Consideration (FYC) campaign, from the moment nominations drop to how nominees should be building community with peers.
What happens the moment nominations drop?
Publicity Manager Emma Rowell describes the post-nomination period as a sprint.
"When the news of nominations drops, it's immediately a race to the finish line in terms of PR efforts. The timeline for this window is quick, and we have to respond to that," Emma says.
Her focus shifts immediately to strategy: What activations and goals can be accomplished within a little over a month? How can the team maximize efforts in that timeline? How do you keep reminding voters of a project and sustain momentum after a nomination?
Every client brings a different angle, different strengths in connecting with peers and voters, and different long-term career priorities. All of it shapes how an FYC campaign strategy gets built.
How do publicists build visibility during FYC season?
A strong FYC visibility strategy looks beyond traditional press.
"We're adapting to both a rapidly changing media landscape and shorter voting windows," Emma explains.
That means identifying visibility pathways the PR team can own directly, from invite lists to viewership communities. These controlled channels include in-person and virtual events, panels, mixers, and social media engagement, giving nominees direct access to industry peers rather than relying solely on earned media.
What is cross-pollination in awards season PR?
Cross-pollination is how Impact24 PR publicists use their network of clients, collaborators, and industry friends to expand a nominee's reach. Through virtual and in-person panels, award-nominated clients can pool their audiences, creating shared industry awareness that benefits everyone involved.
"Cross-pollination of networks is the bottom line," Emma says. "We're looking to see how you are and aren't leveraging your current community, and how we can directly connect you with other relevant peer groups to broaden that reach amidst Emmy season."
What should nominees do the moment they're nominated?
Tell everyone, says Branding & Publicity Coordinator Elyssa Ruiz.
Elyssa advises nominees to use social media immediately, with at least one dedicated post announcing the nomination. Announcing online is the fastest way to join the awards conversation, and it opens the door to being connected with voting members and other nominees looking to cross-pollinate and grow their own audiences.
How should nominees brand their nomination online?
Be as descriptive as possible in social captions, Elyssa advises, since a nomination announcement post can show up directly in Google search results.
Nominees should also add "Emmy-nominated" to their bios across their website, IMDb, Instagram, and any other platform they use. It's a simple way to cement the nomination, adding a layer of distinction that signals the caliber of the work to future collaborators.
How can nominees use awards season to build a peer network?
Beyond reaching voters, award season is an organic opportunity to build new peer networks with fellow nominees. Publicist Cory Stillman recommends connecting not just with nominees in your own craft and category, but across crafts and genres.
"Scripted editors, go talk to unscripted editors, and vice versa," Cory says. "Those connections will serve you well now and in the future."
Why does this work matter to publicists?
Account Specialist Megan Campbell sums up why the team leans into award season: an Emmy nomination reflects a client's "hard work on the project and passion for their craft."
"It's a cool thing to be able to support creatives of such caliber and on so many incredible projects," Megan says. "I hope the industry continues to recognize and platform below the line talent."
The bottom line
A successful FYC campaign is a race against a short voting window, built on controlled visibility, cross-pollination between clients and peers, and clear personal branding the moment a nomination is announced.
